Birmingham (UK) City University and Meridian Lightweight Technologies UK, the world’s largest producer of magnesium die cast components, have partnered to produce a symposium to explore the range of important applications for magnesium within the manufacturing sector.
The “Thoughts and Reflections on Magnesium Use” symposium will showcase the lightweight, versatile, recyclable magnesium metal as an alternative material, especially for the automobile and aerospace manufacturing sectors.
The symposium represents an exclusive partnership between Birmingham City University and Meridian Lightweight Technologies, a strategic alliance that has seen the two organizations cooperating in the education, research and development of magnesium use, while focusing on fuel efficiency through weight savings and sustainability.
The International Magnesium Association, The High Speed Sustainable Manufacturing Institute and Forum for The Future are other participants
in the collaborative partnership. A keynote presentation, “The Future of Mobility--Lightweight, Circular, and Enabled through Magnesium” will be delivered by Ela Rose, Sustainability Advisor at Forum for the Future, a global non-profit organization (see more at: https://www.forumforthefuture.org/)
Meridian’s Nottinghamshire UK plant produces around 5,000 net metric tons of die-cast products annually, serving automotive clients such as Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW, Ford, Honda and Volvo.
The Symposium is intended to introduce the research conducted by the University’s academics and business partners, including topics like
Towards the Improvement of Magnesium Alloys, Magnesium in the Automotive and Aerospace Industries, and The Viability of Using Magnesium Alloys. See more/links at http://bcuadvantage.co.uk/events/514/Thoughts-and-Reflections-on-Magnesium-use---Symposium
