Aviation giant Airbus describes its BizLab as
“a global aerospace business accelerator. . . to bring together start-ups and Airbus ‘intrapreneurs’
(internal entrepreneurs) to work and speed up the transformation of their innovative ideas into valuable businesses.”
Recently six startups were selected out of 140 applications from seven countries (reviewed on the basis of business concept, level of innovation, scalability and potential to solve real-life problems in aviation) in the third batch of the company’s program.
Among those selected were:
Hindustan Magnesium (Hyderabad, India) (http://hindustanmagnesium.com/). The company offers end-to-end solutions for parts manufactured in new-generation magnesium alloys, and provides lightweight solutions to the automotive, aerospace and defense sectors through innovation in design and engineering.
Orxa Energies (Bangalore, India) (https://www.f6s.com/orxaenergies) develops performance electric vehicles and associated e-transportation technologies. It believes that battery swap will be a key enabler to the swift electrification of transport. Orxa is in discussions with fleet-operators for their electrification, and is also working on deploying its technology in aerospace.
Airbus BizLab has hosted dozens of start-ups and Airbus internal projects at locations in Toulouse (France), Hamburg (Germany), and Bengaluru (the official name of Bangalore, India).
The program extends beyond startups in the aerospace sector to nurture budding companies in data analytics, artificial intelligence, factories of the future, smart energy, cybersecurity, supply chain, space tech, and urban air mobility, among other disciplines.
